I know that Anthony Joshua got nothing on you when you get into your work mode like this, Oga of productivity, slugging it out 5 hours nonstop. Well, let me tell you something, it's yourself you're doing o, no one else. Taking breaks is a nonnegotiable aspect of working. Even God took breaks when He was creating the world. Which project are you now working on that you'll not rest? Rest is important and necessary to improve the quality of your output.
Here are five reasons why you should take breaks in between work
Taking breaks relieves stress and helps your mental health and well-being.
While hard work is important, your brain can get saturated at some point if you work for long hours without taking a break and this could trigger the release of negative emotions. Taking breaks will help you relieve stress and improve your general well-being.
Increases productivity
Rest increases your productivity and helps your mind refocus. It also increases creativity and restores your focus and attention, all of which are elements for increasing your productivity
Improves your mood
Not only does it improve your mood, but social breaks also help you interact better with your colleagues or people around you and this gives you a sense of belonging. So yes, you can do small aproko with Chidinma, but only do it a little o...if they sack you, I was never here.
Lessen injuries, body aches, and pains.
But honestly, how won't you have body aches when you've been sitting like this guy below for five hours straight? Movement breaks help boost your emotional and physical health. By taking breaks and walking around, you can avoid desk injuries. Desk job injuries are injuries caused by poor posture over long periods. Your visual parts are also not left out of the need for breaks. Staring at your computer or phone screen for too long can negatively affect your vision and cause headaches.
Helps you review your goals
One important factor of success is being able to review the goals and objectives you have set for yourself. This would help you know if you’ve gone off-course or if you’re still on track. The last thing you want to experience is working on a five-page document and realizing you have been focused on the wrong thing all along. Taking breaks will help you evaluate your progress, identify points of improvement and enhance your overall performance.
How to take work breaks
Now that we know the importance of work breaks, how can we ensure that you take them effectively whether in the office or if you are working from home?
Set an alarm on your phone at different time intervals to remind you of your break.
Plan a fun activity for your work break that you would not want to miss out on.
You can take a walk, or conduct body stretches to help relieve stiff joints and make you feel better physically.
Don’t try to multitask. E.g Eating and working. Focus on your meal or any other recreational activity you’ve planned for yourself.
Totally disconnect from work. Step away from your work gadgets and allow your mind to relax. This will help you refocus and be more energized when you resume work.
Take a power nap. Power naps are short daytime naps lasting anywhere from 10-30 minutes and are meant to give you an energy boost if you’re feeling tired and sluggish. A good power nap not only helps improve your productivity but also your overall well-being.
Socialize. Go out and talk to people. Yes, remote workers, catch your sub.
Momentary breaks will help improve the quality of your work and prevent exhaustion. You do not want to lose yourself, just because you want to meet up with a target. It is very important that you take care of yourself, so if you feel like you need a break, please take it.
With love,
From Kiki
