Do You Really "Pray About it?"

In the past year, we have seen and experienced very trying times. Even if it hasn't too hit close to home, we've had friends, loved ones, church members, classmates, share challenges that could make you shudder and wonder how they're even able to get up in the morning. Or it could be that you have had to endure painful experiences as well.

And when our close ones share these challenges, we are quick to respond with that cliché phrase amongst the christian folk, "I'll pray about it". It's such an easy thing to say, you know, something to make you feel or look spiritual.

It's not exactly a bad thing though except, Do you really pray about it, or does it skip your mind the next minute you're distracted and your mind wanders off to something else?

And then when it has to do with your personal problems, do you/have you really pray/prayed about it?. Pause for a moment and think about it. Many times we talk to the people around us MORE than we talk to God about a certain situation.

This is a new year and a lot of us might have some laid down resolutions for the year. I'll advise that to that list, we add that we'll always take a minute or two immediately after we say that phrase to follow through with it.

And that, just before you pour your heart out to that friend or 'bestie', ask yourself "have I talked to God about this?", "Have I actually prayed about this challenge I am experiencing?"

We just might never get around to praying over some issues of our lives or praying for friends that have confided in us if we keep looking for a perfect time. Prayer can happen anytime, anywhere, in traffic, while doing domestic chores or even while answering nature's call.

Whatever you do, please Pray about it.

Musings of a Young Dreamer Girl: PERHAPS

Just like this picture, we'd want our lives to be prim and proper. But fortunately it doesn't always turn out that way. Why fortunately? Well, perhaps, there's a possibility that we would sink into a routine, running around in circles, never going back but yet never moving forward. Perhaps, there would be no aspirations, no dreams, no hope, and what is a man without hope? Dead. Perhaps, we would then rest on our oars and pride in the fact that we made it happen all by ourselves. This is seemingly possible as man has always tried to play god, most times to his detriment. Maybe the problems, the challenges, the bills, come so that in the process of dealing with them we bump into our purpose, our reason for being created, our existence. Perhaps they come that we may realize the endless possibilities of faith, increasing by each victory. Perhaps, the untidiness of a partner or the unruliness of a family member would teach us to love even when we do not feel like it. Perh...

MY NYSC Chronicles 4 - The Journey to Camp (3)

He was gone for about ten minutes during which we contemplated coming down from the vehicle and running, but to where? It was about 12:30 am, and civilization was nowhere near, who could arrive at camp by. So we sat still and prayed earnestly in our hearts that he had only just gone to answer nature's call.  When he showed up, we apprehensively looked to see if there was anyone following him. Fortunately, he was alone. He entered the driver's seat, muttered what seemed like an apology and we continued the journey. The sigh of relief was audible even as we kept wondering how much longer the journey would take us.  About thirty minutes later, we saw lights coming from a direction and as we approached it, we saw army barricades and then a checkpoint. The soldiers were somewhat hostile as they flagged us down as we drew closer. I wouldn't blame them anyway, who could arrive at camp by 2 am in the morning. Finally, we saw the camp gate. Joy like a river in my soul!  The soldie...

DEAR FUTURE HUSBAND

Dear future husband, I've been awake trying to imagine what it'd be like to live with one person for the rest of my life. I don't know if I've met you already, I just wonder if you also think about living with me. I watched The Wedding Party for the third time today and it gives me the same feeling each time. I definitely want to have a dream wedding, which girl doesn't? So I beg you please be responsible. I really hope you're doing something tangible with your life cause am trying my best here. The only thing that scared me in that movie was Broda Banky still asking how he could stick to one person for the rest of his life on the morning of his wedding. Pls I'm begging you in the name of God, figure that out before you even engage me. I cannot come and be crying and be running up and down on heels for that matter. But then am also learning it's more than just having a dream wedding but having a happily ever after marriage. I believe it exists but we b...
